How To Choose Right Engine Horsepower For Tractor Head

Engine power enhancement is the inevitable development trend of the heavy truck industry, which can enhance transport efficiency, improve timeliness and safety, reduce fuel consumption, and meet the requirements of high-quality development. How to choose the right horsepower for a tractor head is mainly considered in terms of load capacity, road conditions etc. Currently the SHACMAN and SINOTRUK tractor heads are available in 380, 400, 430 horsepower etc. This article will explain in detail how to choose the horsepower.

1. Standard Weight & Good Road Condition (380 horsepower)

According to our Tanzanian customers' feedback, for the same HOWO tractor head, the same transport route and the same 50 tonne gross vehicle weight (tractor head+flatbed trailer+cargoes weight), the fuel consumption of the 380HP HOWO tractor head is higher than that of the 400HP HOWO tractor head. The fuel consumption of 380HP HOWO tractor head is lower than that of 400hp HOWO tractor head by about 4L per 100km. It can be seen that on some of the better transport routes and for standard loads, a small horsepower tractor head is very advantageous. Not only the fuel consumption is low, but also the purchasing costs.

2. Mountain Road Conditions (400 or more horsepower)

In the DRC, Angola, Peru and other countries in mountainous areas, the fuel economy of the high-horsepower tractor head is better than that of the low-horsepower tractor head, which can keep the fuel consumption at about 40L to 45L per 100 kilometres. It can be seen that in the mountainous areas of the slope section, the high-horsepower tractor head by virtue of the characteristics of low speed and high torque, can better meet the mountainous road conditions for the high demand for power and save fuel consumption, improve the fuel economy of the whole vehicle. And high-horsepower tractor head also has a strong climbing ability, especially in the face of continuous uphill sections, high-horsepower models can easily complete the ramp start, continuous climbing and other operations.

Customers in the choice of tractor head, must be based on their own actual use of the scene to choose, focusing on their transport cargo type, cargo weight, transport time requirements, often run on the road situation, mountainous roads accounted for, and so on. In short, must first sort out their own needs to understand, and then go to choose the most suitable engine horsepower.
